Leighton honed his skills while competing at the collegiate level while studying at Weatherford College. After graduating, he turned professional and has since become one of the top rodeo athletes in the country.

Known for his passion for the cowboy lifestyle, he is committed to preserving the traditions of the rodeo community. He is an active member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and works to promote the sport and its values.

The skill and athleticism that earned so much respect in the arena also earned the backing of sponsors such as Hooey, Wrangler Jeans, Resistol Hats, and Justin Boots.
